The Variatus Huextetitla is a wild type of platy. If you’re looking for a more exotic livebearer, give these a try! The females stay relatively colorless, maintaining a grayish brown color. The males are the ones that stand out, developing black spots, yellow dorsals, and occasionally blue and red in the body. These colors do not come out until they are fully mature. A good ratio of both sexes will be sent if you order multiple fish. Platies make an excellent choice of fish for those starting out in the aquarium hobby because of their hardiness. They should be able to do well in cooler temperatures, especially variatus platies, being able to dip down to a temperature of 68F. Like other livebearers, they need a good amount of calcium in their system, so they do best in harder water.
