"Yozakura" translated from Japanese to English means Night Cherry Blossom, which is a fitting name for this beautiful strain of ricefish. They have lamé scales scattered all across the tops of their bodies, shining brightly when they’re under light. This is the gold variant of this popular strain, and has been bred to have gold as the base color for the fish. Young fry may take a while to develop their full colors, which display best when they are kept in a black container or an aquarium with a dark background and bottom. Medaka ricefish originated in East Asia and were commonly found in rice fields, giving them the name "ricefish". They are a very hardy fish that can withstand temperatures as low as 35F and as high as 105F, but prefer to stay between 60F-80F. They do not like aquariums or ponds with a strong current, and are actually often kept in mini ponds with no filter or aeration. Ricefish are like Koi fish, and are bred to be viewed from the top, making them excellent choices for pond fish!
