The Ulysses Ricefish showcases a striking blend of shimmering turquoise, yellow, and occasionally silver lamé against a gold or gray body. Young fry may take a while to develop their full colors, which display best when they are kept in a black container or an aquarium with a dark background and bottom. Medaka ricefish originated in East Asia and were commonly found in rice fields, giving them the name "ricefish". They are a very hardy fish that can withstand temperatures as low as 35F and as high as 105F, but prefer to stay between 60F-80F. They do not like aquariums or ponds with a strong current, and are actually often kept in mini ponds with no filter or aeration. Ricefish are like Koi fish, and are bred to be viewed from the top, making them excellent choices for pond fish!
